Herbs.

I’ve been thinking about table pieces. And… kind of stuck on a few ideas:

  • I think it would be fun to use food in the centerpiece. There’s something really cool about the flower-alternative, and something very organic and bountiful about the idea to me.
  • Antique pink pots / vases.
  • Something that can be used again. Incorporating sustainability into the wedding is really cool to me. Buying a 2nd hand or donated dress, doing away with a lot of the kitch that will (likely) be thrown right away, getting married in nature, etc.

potted herbs

What if we potted different herbs in little pink pots that we find (yes, i mean you. get to the thrift store! find me an old pink pot!) and invited everyone to take them home afterwards. Or eat them. Or hell, I’ll take them home afterwards. It should only take me a few weeks to kill the lot of them. :)

After a few minutes of GoogleFu, I found out that herbs have mythological meanings associated to them. How… pertinent! Love, Endurance, Devotion, etc, are all things that would be awesome to have symbolized on the table.

For the skeptics in the room…

I’ve heard a little bit of concern from family and friends about the colours. I’m really confident about them, and I want you to be too! So, I have a few examples:

Granted, my wedding party won’t all be cute-asian-girls:

My mom was worried about the black suit / brown dress combo, but i think it looks great here:

and please don’t judge me for being so girly, but isn’t this incredible?

paper! paper, my dear friends.

Please refer back to this post, where I’m talking on and on about how much more important the paper is than the dress.

And folks, today we have The Paper. I’m thrilled. I won’t tell you what it is, but I am excited about it.

Also… a cookie to those of you who have an idea flowers / table pieces. I want to incorporate food into the table pieces, like… grapes maybe? (thanks for the idea, mom!).

eeh!

Today, it’s willamette.

As jon so kindly pointed out, we’ve had THREE destinations for our Presidents-Day-Weekend-Oh-Fun. (thanks, jon.)

The thing is, I want this trip to act as something of a “planning trip” for the wedding. I want to scout out “The Spot” and find “The Hotel” and eat my first sample slice of “The Cake”. (yes, things need to be capitalzied when they’re the Official Wedding Things.)

I’ve discovered something in the past few days. Oregon’s a lot prettier than Washington. Like… a *lot* prettier. Washington got a little screwed in the whole “beautiful country side” thing. So… why not go where it’s pretty?

Getting Closer

For as many times as I change my mind about location/dates/colours/The Dress, I have to say thanks to jon for being behind me and on board with all of my craziness. I’m kind of … quirky to start with, so throwing me into wedding planning, and I imagine I can be quite a handful. Anyway, thanks jon.

On to bigger news.

I think I we are closer to settling on some of the details. I’ve been looking at spots in Lake Chelan lately, and from the Internet Glance that I’ve had, it looks like it might be perfect. Water, vineyards, sort of close to seattle? Sounds great.

We have a couple of potential invitee lists, that range from 24-30 people (which is much more than the 2 of us I had initially thought we’d have!) , figured out a budget (sort of) and I’m pretty sure we’re close to picking a location. (Maybe).

Oh. And we decided to move the whole thing up to this year.
Fall of ’08? September-ish? 8 months to plan?
Sure. Sounds Fine (he says).
