Wishing Wells

Thanks to the girls who have been sending me links lately–blogs and magazines and whatnot with great ideas and inspiration.  I’m going to start recording them here, mostly a record for myself, but maybe you’ll give me some feedback on what you think?

#1:  I like this idea of “wishing wells” instead of a guest book.  The idea is that you have a cool vase and a stack of notecards next to it.  And instead of signing the guestbook, everyone writes a note on the cards, and sticks them… in the vase.  I like the idea because we could bring it to both events (WA and WI) and they’d be easy to keep. (and the vase would be great to reuse).

#2:  While I’m at it, I *love* this colour scheme idea:  a variety of chocolate browns and pinks.  It sounds so … wonderful.  Oh, and the really stellar part about that story is that their wedding was set in a vineyard also.

oh! oh oh!

Well. I know this is probably a cultural faux pas, or … whatever it may be, but I’m not much for tradition and I’m really excited. So i want to share.

We bought a dress yesterday. A *wedding* dress.

The coolest part about it, I think, is that we bought it at a breast cancer fundraiser; kind of a “make a wish foundation” for terminially ill women.

Anyways, see below:

walla… what?

jon and I generally don’t exchange gifts for holidays and events, instead opting to eat out at one of the many restaurants we’ve been eyeing lately. With valentines day coming up, I started the list again and quickly came to the thought that we should modify “tradition” this year and try something new–how about an off season trip to a few wineries around? So, we’re starting to think about a weekend get away to Walla Walla.

I’m so excited I could… jump in circles.

Which leads me to my next thought… we had been talking briefly about vineyard wedding in the south of France, or even Napa, but what I’m forgetting is that we live in an amazing area! Why not explore our own resources (geographically) so that we can use more of our resources (financially) on other things? (like food and… WINE!)

something new?

I was about to say that “I learned something about myself”, but for those of you who have ever met me it’s glaringly obvious…

I’m too OCD to have a destination wedding. I want to preside over every minute detail of my entire life (remember that time i planned out all four years of college courses at midnight in the 12th grade?). What would make the wedding any different?

But you know, I’m torn. Because on one hand, a remote wedding on an island somewhere would be so freakin cool and on the other hand… well, wouldn’t the same size wedding in a northwest vineyard be just as cool? Shouldn’t I just have faith that j and I are interesting people and whatever we end up deciding on will be stellar?

yeah. stellar.

Invitations

I keep wanting to *design* something.  I’m just getting the itch that it would feel more real if I had a something in an illustrator file, ready to be put on paper.  But. I don’t.  I’m still in the cloud-drift stage of looking through galleries, poking my nose in portfolios and trying to decide what we like.

The problem, I think, is that we can’t do any of this until we decide on our “where” or our “what”.  I’m so eager!  Jon!! Your laissez faire attitude towards this is BS! I need momentum! I need decisions!  I need a project! I need to use less exclamation points.

Anyhow.  I’m stuck in picking a design elements. Squares? Flowers? Lines? Hand drawn? Vector? Photography?  What?!

Please, for the love of sans-serif, tell me I’m not the only bride-to-be that’s obsessed about her *design elements* more than her dress.
