the aisle of compromise

I’m trying to please everyone. I’m sure you know it’s difficult.

I imagine I’m having a much less difficult time because I have a very supportive family. Jon’s incredible and both of our parents (though if not with out suggestions) are very happy and obliging with everything that we’ve decided. But I knew this was coming.

The Aisle Question.

I want my mom to walk me down the aisle. I’m sure that is going to ruffle a few feathers, but you know what? I’m not sure that I care.

Registries, part 2.

I’d like to register for a puppy.  How do I go about doing that?

Today I bought organic dirt.

  • The woman in the plant store related how much to fertilize in measurements of Starbucks coffee cups. I feel like a Seattleite.
  • One of my best friends is coming to visit for a week. Gets in on Tuesday. I’m really excited. I think it’s a great time for both of us.

Children…

Maybe this isn’t the right place for this discussion. Maybe it is. Maybe no one reads this anyways, so it doesn’t matter.

I’ve been asked about children a lot lately. Something about getting married makes people think that you’re ready and willing to procreate. I’m… not. I really have very little interest in the subject, actually.

Among many personal reasons, reading the New York Times this morning kind of hit home. There’s an article about how food is becoming too expensive for much of the world and they have to fight, and loot and riot just to feed themselves. Next to that, there’s an article about how some experimental things that we’re trying may create a black hole and swallow the earth up. And after that more on how immoral we’ve become as a nation, how it’s becoming The American Way to cut each other down to get ahead, and how it just… in general feels like we’re a world that’s about to self destruct.

I think i’ll cancel my newspaper subscription.

[I had a dream last night that I was having tea with the Dalai Lama. I said something awkward and he left. I suppose that sums me up.]

registries

I think registering is kind of weird. Note: I *love* when other people register, because it helps me get them exactly what they want and not something weird and artsy like I would normally get them :) but I think it’s weird to spend a couple hours going “I want this, and this, and this.” Because, as jon reminds me, I don’t like things. And we already have just about everything we need. (That is, aside from being located in the same state. But such is life.)

Anyways, from the recommendations that i’ve heard, I think we’re going to register at three places. 1. Crate & Barrel, 2. Target (or ikea?), 3. a dept. store of some sort–perhaps Macys. What do you think?

Mostly, I want a set of really nice wine glasses. But like, 8 of each because I’m bound to break some. hah.
