I met jon at the train station and we wandered around in search of dinner. ‘Lo and behold, we found yet another “downtown” area of Yokohama.

Some days we feel adventurous. Other days we eat at restaurants that look like they may have some Engrish on their menu. Or Pictures. We do *really* well with pictures. This time we decided to eat at the place with the really incredible sign outside. Typography ftw.
I mean, check out these rad steel fish! What would you have done?
Once inside, we knew we scored. It looked really cool. While we still had no idea what they served, the food had to be good.
We’ve found that at restaurants, while certainly not everyone speaks English, there is generally at least one person on staff that speaks SOME English. Enough to communicate. If not, we smile and point, relying on the trusty “kore, kudesai” (this one, please). This works because jon and I will eat anything. I think it’s the only way to live in a foreign country happily. Sometimes we get lucky, othertimes we get sochu. (Sochu is like japanese whisky.)
So we pointed, feeling confident. Incredible food. Since no one leaves gratuity here, the two of us ate and drank for $56 total. One thing that drives me crazy is the “table charge”. When you sit down, they bring you what would be an amuse bouche were we in a french restaurant, something to whet the appetite presumably. Then they charge you $3 each for it. Dammit.
Anyways. Food. Tasty, tasty things. This one was crazy. We still have no clue what it was:

A closer look tells us that there’s “cheese” and something that kind of resembles a potato. who knows. We do know that it was terrible for you and very tasty.

There was also a steak dish, a salad and some octopus that was prepared like very light calamari. It was awesomesauce. This is jon, eating. Probably upset that I was snapping photos.
