some random facts

For those of you who were privvy to my “cell phone, coffee cup, wine glass” comparison over the holidays (where I was trying to show the relationship of the 3 cities and the cell phone was yokosuka, the coffee cup was yokohama, and the wine glass was tokyo), I was a little wrong about my statistics.  Here are some interesting facts about where we’re going:

Yokohama is the 2nd largest city in Japan. With 3.4 million people, it’s just slightly larger than Chicago (which has 3 million).  It’s also about 2/3 the size of Chicago in terms of land-space.  Pretty neat.  It also has the largest Chinatown in Japan, which is exciting because it’s totally like visiting two countries at once.  Kind of. ;)

Okay, as kitchy as this sounds, there are three (that’s right, THREE) food-themed amusement parks in Yokohama.

  1. “Yokohama Daiseikai,” also called “DASKA” is a Chinese themed park, where you can see historical art, theater, and of course authentic Cantonese food.
  2. There’s Ramen musem.  really.  ode to the noodle style
  3. Kirin is brewed in Yokohama!  How perfect!

kirin optional tour?

I’m not sure what this tour is for, but if that little guy’s going to be there, I want to go!
