After 10 years, it’s important to find reasons to have dates. While we don’t gift for the occasion, jon and I have always made a habit of doing dinner somewhere nice for valentines, anniversaries, birthdays, etc. Yesterday we spent the day in Fremont having a valentines extravaganza. It was rad.
Step 1: the Theo chocolate tour, which we’ve been meaning to do for about 5 years. It’s 6 bucks and about an hour long, and really worth it.

With our hairnets in place, we sampled, toured the factory, sampled, and learned some really interesting facts about both chocolate production and fair trade laws.

Remember, there’s nothing more disgusting than “hair flavoured chocolate”. We were in good company with our blue hats, though jon was the lone ranger with the beard net.

From tree to bar, our super-knowledgeable tour guide taught us all about the chocolate making process, let us taste nibs, and fondle cocoa beans husks.

Afterward, we headed down the street to the Fremont Brewery for a few games of scrabble. $7 for a sampler tray is such a great deal. To add fuel to the fire, they brew FOUR different super dark beers. So exciting!

One of the many downsides of working too much is that I’m not very up on the restaurant scene. Luckily, my awesome husband has one of those jobs where he can take breaks sometimes and read the food column of the newspaper. I’m not bitter or anything. I promise. Do you love how the quality of my blog posts dramatically decreases when the TV’s on? yeah. that’s what I thought.
Book Bindery. Next door there’s a winery. Actually good wines. Great food. Spot on service. The interior decorating was spot on. Overall, a really cool experience though I have to say that by the end of the night I’d drank entirely too much and sometimes when I’m drinky I like *everything* more than is necessary. But whatever. I think being a happy drunk isn’t the worst thing in the word.
This is us. We’re rockin. And I have the best husband in husband-town.

We started with a glass of sparkling and some hamachi, which was one of the most pretentious dishes I’ve had in years. Luckily, the flavours lived up to the hype. The winery next door makes about 15 good wines, and we decided on a bottle of cab franc for dinner. The cab franc was a perfect match for jon’s Duo of Pork but was a little heavier than I probably wanted with my citrusy scallop dish. But don’t worry, I struggled through.

I have a wonderful husband. I hope you all have equally fantastic valentines day celebrations.
